Ms. Moore has been teaching high school students for nine years. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Marketing. Ms. Moore went on to study at Arizona State and Northern Arizona University earning a post-baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education and a Masters of Educational Leadership respectively. She was selected as the 2008 Super Bowl Teacher of the Year and 2008 DECA Advisor of the Year.

“Teaching marketing education at the high school level has enriched my life. Guiding, teaching, and advising students about a career field for which I have a great passion gives me great joy each day! Creating a classroom where learning is encouraged and is hands-on is challenging, but completely worth it! My classroom is a place where education is experienced, not just a lecture. The students walk outside for the four walls of our classroom and walk into the field to learn about marketing and how it applies to life. Content covered in depth is true learning!”

“My students learn how to assess themselves from a business perspective and to market themselves to employers. Empowerment is what learning is all about and I get to be the lucky teacher, as they take the initial steps to a successful career path. I love seeing a student complete a job shadow opportunity and discover that it was NOT for them. Sounds crazy, but I believe it helps them narrow their choices and save them college money that would have been spent on a career they THOUGHT they wanted. I love giving them a jump start, an edge, an incentive for their career. I love providing the opportunity to find their place in the sun and the skills to shine on.”

“Project-based learning is the foundation for many of my lesson plans in my classes; it requires a hands-on application of the theory learned. It is a real project the students commit to and undertake, not a simulation or a worksheet. It is a real event, working with industry partners and community and school leaders and it is due on a certain date. There is no late work that can be turned in. It must be ready on the date of the event because people will be there to attend and participate.”

“Deb Moore is an extraordinary teacher by any measure. First of all, she is a “kid magnet”. Students flock to her class in record numbers. They come because they love Deb’s enthusiasm and genuine concern for their personal and leadership development. They stay because they learn skills that will empower them for a lifetime.” Dr. John Mulcahy, Administrator for Career Services, Peoria Unified School District
