Cynthia Chovich

Frontier Elementary School, Payson
3rd and 4th Grade

“I allow my students to get down on the ground if they choose. This means that you’ll most likely find me down there too because that’s where the learning is taking place. I really feel it does not hurt anything if they are allowed to eat in class or take off their shoes. I wear bright colors, silly shirts, and tennis shoes almost every day, and I feel it makes me more approachable to my students. So, when it’s time to paint or play football, I am right there with them. My goal is to bond with my students beyond the traditional realms of teaching. These may seem like simple things, but in the eyes of a child it means learning is and can be fun.”

“We are teachers and we teach. Yet, that is only a part of who we are. We are hand holders for those afraid to take a risk. We are tear dryers for those who feel they have failed. We are a soft shoulder for a broken heart. We are a hug for no reason at all. We are the one stable person when the world is falling apart. We are secret crushes and class clowns. We are a parent’s hope. We are lunch dates for the ones who have no friends. We are role models for those who have none. We are moms and dads for children the world seemed to forget.”

Frontier Elementary School parent and fellow teacher writes, “As a parent, I am thankful that my own child was able to experience Ms. Chovich’s learning styles. My daughter was quiet and not strong academically in the area of mathematics. Ms. Chovich assured me that in her class, my daughter would learn to enjoy math and would be enthusiastic in the classroom. My daughter blossomed academically and personally because of Ms. Chovich’s teaching techniques and willingness to work with the individual learner as well as the class.”

Ms. Chovich earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Liberal Studies from Cal State San Marcos and her Master’s Degree from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix. She has been teaching for 15 years.
