“Being the best teacher that I can be is…my greatest accomplishment in education. Each day I have the most important job in the world to accomplish – to teach my kids. I can honestly say that I do everything in my power to do my utmost for them, be my best for them, and compel them to achieve the most each day, regardless of the other distractions and responsibilities in my life. I have no greater accomplishment than to drive home at the end of the day with a song in my heart knowing that I have done my best to improve the life of every child in my charge.” After nearly 22 years as a teacher, Tony’s passion for his students is evident. “My greatest reward is reveling in the harmony created by the happy, safe, and challenged chorus of kids in my class. Feeling their energy and enthusiasm and feeding off it makes teaching a pleasure. Watching my kids change for the better and witnessing as each one finds his/her own voice and that voice soar is the song in my soul.” Jay’s incorporation of music into his classroom results in a partnership from which all his students can benefit. His students are members of “The Stanforth Singers” and have been known to welcome new students, entertain the school on morning announcements, cheer up one another, or serenade a staff member; they also have performed at a nearby nursing home.

Jay received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
