  • “My greatest accomplishments can be seen in my students’ success in school, and in the impact I have been able to have on their lives, and on occasion, on their family situation. When students first arrive from Mexico, they walk into the classroom with all kinds of fear. They don’t know what to expect from other students or from the teachers. They try desperately to fit in. I attempt to diffuse their fear by greeting them warmly and talking gently with them. I try to establish a learning environment that is friendly and welcoming. At the end of the school year, I see the same students smiling, and blossoming, and best of all, they are able to understand and speak enough English to feel confident and successful.”
  • “I believe that to be a good teacher, I have to be willing to love and to place the highest value on each of my students. I know that there are children who are difficult, but with respect and love, a caring teacher can make a great difference in their lives. I find so many rewards in teaching.”
  • “My feelings about teaching can be seen in the care I take in bringing to the classroom an attitude of integrity, discipline and caring. I know that each day I have to bring more than just information to my students if I’m going to help them become better classroom learners….(A teacher) should be committed to the academic and civic growth of her students and towards instilling values that will make them great citizens.”

Ms. Pederson graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Escuela Normal Nueva Galicia in Guadalajara, Mexico, and received her bi-lingual endorsement from the University of Phoenix.
