2020 Polly Rosenbaum Creative Writing Contest

Phoenix, Ariz., January 17th, 2020 - The Arizona Educational Foundation Annual Polly Rosenbaum Creative Writing Contest has concluded. 


This year's prompt was, "What ideas do you have for citizens to actively engage in their communities?"

7th & 8th Grade Category 1st Place - Caitlin Standard, 8th grade Cheyenne Traditional School, Scottsdale Unified School District, Student of Christine Marsh 2nd Place - Lit Woodruff, 8th grade Cheyenne Traditional School, Scottsdale Unified School District, Student of Christine Marsh TIE - 3rd Place - Sara Ortiz, 8th grade Western Sky Middle School, Litchfield Elementary School District, Student of Elizabeth Davis TIE - 3rd Place - Lilly Marx, 7th grade Casteel High School, Chandler Unified School District, Student of Anne Wasson 9th & 10th Grade Category 1st Place - Morgan Longacre, 9th grade Casteel High School, Chandler Unified School District, Student of Michelle Swartz 2nd Place - Charlie Slade, 10th grade Casteel High School, Chandler Unified School District, Student of Kelly Hanlon 3rd Place - Alexander Pearson, 10th grade Shadow Ridge High School, Dysart Unified Schools, Student of Nicholas Pope 11th & 12th Grade Category 1st Place - Fiona Sauve, 12th grade Highland High School, Gilbert Public School District, Student of Lisa Loschetter-Geusic 2nd Place - Giovannah Hoskin, 12th grade Red Mountain High School, Mesa Public Schools, Student of Rachel Cupryk 3rd Place - Sage Lewis, 11th grade Cactus Shadows High School, Cave Creek Unified School District, Student of Julie Binnicker The top students in each category of the 2020 Contest and their guests will join state leaders at the Arizona State Capitol, February 14, 2020 at 9:30am for an awards ceremony. We are proud to announce that Arizona's Poet Laureate, Alberto Rios and 2016 AEF Arizona Teacher of the Year Christine Marsh will keynote the event.


BACKGROUND

The Polly Rosenbaum writing contest is named for former state representative and teacher, Polly Rosenbaum who passed away in 2003 at the age of 104.

This writing contest is a long-standing tradition honoring Mrs. Rosenbaum, who believed Arizona's young people are the state's greatest resource. Click here to learn more about the program and the Arizona Educational Foundation.
